Dr Dorette Crous (South African)
Dorette completed four degrees and worked in a corporate environment in Sales and Marketing for 13 years, before she decided to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. Dorette graduated at the end of 2015 and spent 2016 doing her Compulsory Community Service at a busy clinic in Temba, Pretoria. Although a lot of the clinic’s patients were small animals, she also spent time working after hours at the Onderstepoort Equine Veterinary Hospital. She has always been drawn to horses and decided early on to make them the focus of her work. Dorette has not regretted her decision to go to vet school as she has finally found herself in a profession that she really enjoys. She is interested in performing surgery as she had the opportunity to perform a number of complicated surgeries on small animals during her community service.
Dorette calls herself a bit of an eccentric and her friends and family have come to know her for her brightly coloured hair and diverse interests. She races mountain bikes and is involved with gravity racing (downhill and enduro). She also owns a Ducati Monster motorbike, plays the drums, paints in oils and, much to her friend’s dismay, crochets!
