Located in the heart of The Valley of the Racehorse, Upshire Farm is home to Baker McVeigh Lambourn. Set within the world-renowned racing centre of Lambourn, our practice provides expert veterinary care to a thriving community of trainers and horse owners.

Our Lambourn practice offers a cutting edge, fully equipped ambulatory service. With advanced diagnostic capabilities such as digital radiography, ultrasound, and endoscopic technologies, we are able to deliver expert veterinary care to our equine athletes.

The team is made up of experienced equine veterinarians, including partners and clinicians who have trained and worked internationally, with specialisms in racehorse medicine, orthopaedics and performance care. As part of the internationally recognised Baker McVeigh group, we combine local knowledge with global expertise to offer reliable, high-quality care tailored to every horse.

John McVeigh

Leading the Baker McVeigh group is the renowned John McVeigh, a prominent figure in international horse racing circles. For three and a half decades, John has played a significant role in the expansion and development of our Baker McVeigh practices, overseeing the business’s growth across six practices, over three continents.

John is based in Summerveld and continues to travel to our other practices, offering his assistance, expertise and knowledge.

Ian Beamish

Partner in Lambourn

Ian qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and moved to Newmarket, where he undertook a two-year internship at Greenwood Ellis (Newmarket Equine Hospital). On completing his internship, Ian worked in New Zealand before joining our Baker McVeigh team in Summerveld. After two years in South Africa, Ian returned to the UK. A spell in our Chantilly practice ensued before returning to Newmarket where he looked after one of our larger yards. He then joined our Baker McVeigh practice in Lambourn, in 2016, and now looks after several racing yards.

Antony Clements

Antony Clements joined the Baker McVeigh group in 2001, having previously worked in practices in Hampshire and the University of Glasgow. He has extensive experience and post-graduate qualifications in equine orthopaedics. After moving to Durban and helping to establish the Cape Town practice, Antony moved to the UK where he became the managing partner of the Newmarket practice. He now tends to the needs of our larger clients and offers consulting services across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

Duncan Moir

Following a number of years with Baker McVeigh in South Africa, Duncan returned to the UK to help establish our Newmarket practice. Since then, he has developed an extensive client base in all areas of thoroughbred racing and sports horse fields. With a particular interest in sports medicine, Duncan manages several racing yards in Newmarket. In addition, he vets and consults for various private clients both in the UK and internationally.

Fernando Perez de Villar

Hailing from Spain, Fernando joined our Baker McVeigh practice in Newmarket soon after its inception, in 2006. Following his graduation from Madrid, he worked for three years in Spain before moving to the UK where he has been residing for the last twenty years. Fernando worked in a large animal practice in Surrey, where he dealt mostly with horses. Moreover, he has a wealth of experience in all aspects of equine practice and gained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice, in 2006. In 2011, Fernando became a partner and has been instrumental in the success of our Baker McVeigh Newmarket practice.

Brian Abbott

Partner in Yorkshire and Lambourn

Brian came to the Baker McVeigh group with a wealth of veterinary experience gained in the UK, Ireland, Australia and South Africa. He worked in our Baker McVeigh Summerveld and Cape Town practices and became a senior associate, responsible for the daily ambulatory work at some of the larger racing yards in the country. In 2009, Brian returned to the UK and joined our Baker McVeigh group, forming Baker McVeigh & Abbott in Yorkshire, in 2014. He has a postgraduate certificate in Equine Practice and excels in all aspects of his profession.

Georgina Setter

Georgie graduated from Cambridge University in 2012 and joined Baker McVeigh in Summerveld, South Africa, where she spent the next four and a half years. During her time there she developed her interests in equine orthopaedics and surgery. She also spent a season working at our Cape Town branch in 2014. After two and a half years working in our Newmarket branch, Georgie joined our Baker McVeigh team in Lambourn.

James Boardman

James graduated from The University of Cambridge in 2016 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine after intercalating in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. After graduating, he spent three months as a Clinical Research Scholar at a large equine hospital. He then undertook a two-year internship at an equine referral hospital in Newmarket, working primarily with Thoroughbreds.

Matthew Heaton

Matt graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 2016 and went on to complete an internship at an equine referral hospital in Newmarket. From there he spent time based in the Cotswolds, working with several large National Hunt yards. Matt moved to Australia in 2019, where he worked at a renowned equine practice in Sydney, servicing a number of metropolitan trainers and attending national thoroughbred auctions. Matt and his partner returned from down under in 2024, moving to the Lambourn area, where they have recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world.

Jamie Judd

Jamie graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, in 2016. Following graduation, he worked for an equine practice in Essex before moving to Newmarket to join a world-renowned Equine Practice predominantly as a racing vet but also attending Thoroughbred sales around the UK as well as internationally. Following this he spent a year further developing his interest in orthopaedics, dealing with referral lameness and poor performance cases alongside some of the leading veterinary professionals in the field, before rejoining the racing team in Newmarket. During this time, Jamie spent a couple of winters working for the Dubai Equine Hospital servicing the international runners based at Meydan racetrack during the Dubai World Cup Carnival. In 2020 Jamie moved to Lambourn, as a racing vet working with several Flat and National Hunt yards. Jamie joined Baker McVeigh Lambourn in Spring 2025.

Frankie Barrett

Frankie joined Baker McVeigh Lambourn in 2019 as a veterinary technician after working for Neil King as his head travelling girl. In 2021 she made the move into the office and became practice manager. When not at work, Frankie enjoys swimming, running and most likely planning more holidays.

Alice Robinson

Office Manager

Alice joined Baker McVeigh as a veterinary technician in May 2024 after spending 6 months in the French Alps working as a chalet host. After spending 16 months as a technician Alice then moved into the office. Alice graduated from The Royal Agricultural University with a degree in Bloodstock & Performance Horse Management in 2022. Alice has since spent time working in yearling preparation and stud work both in Ireland and England. Alice can always be found at the sales or away skiing.

Pippa Baker

Pippa joined Baker McVeigh Lambourn in September 2024, after working as a head girl for Jamie Osborne for two and a half years. She studied Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation at Hartpury University. When not at work she enjoys riding her horse, Strike and walking her dog, Willow.

Neave Pritchard

Neave is a passionate royalist with a love for British tradition and heritage. She enjoys skiing whenever she gets the chance, spending time with her two horses at home in Wales and travelling around the country supporting her brother in his career as a professional jockey.

Lou joined Baker McVeigh Lambourn in May 2024 as a veterinary technician. Prior to this she worked in pretraining which has led to her strong passion for following the racing. Outside of work she enjoys competing her horses and is a very talented artist.
