Baker McVeigh & Abbott was founded in Malton on St Paddy’s Day in 2014. In March 2023 the practice expanded its presence in Yorkshire to include a permanent base in Middleham. Between both practices they encompass all of Yorkshire from Sedgefield down to Doncaster. Veterinarians, Brian Abbott, Paul Lentelink, Camilla Nock, Douglas McRobbie and Dominic Laing provide a daily service to some of the biggest and most successful race yards in the UK. In addition, they provide a comprehensive service to horses and ponies in all disciplines from pleasure ponies to competition horses.

Brian Abbott

Brian came to the Baker McVeigh group with a wealth of veterinary experience gained in the UK, Ireland, Australia and South Africa. He worked in our Baker McVeigh Summerveld and Cape Town practices and became a senior associate, responsible for the daily ambulatory work at some of the larger racing yards in the country. In 2009, Brian returned to the UK and joined our Baker McVeigh group, forming Baker McVeigh & Abbott in Yorkshire, in 2014. He has a postgraduate certificate in Equine Practice and excels in all aspects of his profession.

Paul Lentelink

Having worked at Glasgow University and equine practices in Scotland and on The Curragh in Ireland, Paul subsequently spent five years with Baker McVeigh in our Durban and Cape Town practices, in South Africa, as a senior associate. He joined our Newmarket practice in 2010. Paul moved up to Yorkshire to join Camilla and Brian and is now a Partner at Baker McVeigh & Abbott. In addition, Paul holds a certificate in Equine Practice.

Camilla Nock

Camilla graduated from Cambridge University, where she earned her certificate in Equine Sports Medicine. She worked in Yorkshire before joining our Baker McVeigh Cape Town practice in 2010. In addition to performing first-opinion ambulatory work in Cape Town, Camilla was responsible for the cases in their busy referral hospital. She then joined Baker McVeigh & Abbott in Yorkshire, in 2014, as one of our ambulatory vets.

Douglas McRobbie

Doug grew up with horses, being actively involved in the pony club, competed in showjumping and riding work for race yards. He studied zoology and worked as an assistant trainer in the National Hunt before going to Vet School at The University of Edinburgh. Following his graduation from Edinburgh in 2013, he worked in a mixed practice in the borders before moving to Fife to work at a well-known equine practice for 18 months. He has completed an internship at Rainbow Equine Veterinary Hospital in Yorkshire, working with complicated referral cases in medicine, surgery and orthopaedics.

In 2017, Doug joined our Baker McVeigh practice in Summerveld, working with both sports and racehorses.

Dominic Laing

Dominic joined the Baker McVeigh group in 2019. Following his graduation from the Royal Veterinary College in London he worked in a renowned equine practice in Sydney, Australia. Dominic has worked in our Summerveld, Johannesburg, Bahrain and Malton practices. He now heads up our Middleham practice and has special interests in lameness, diagnostic imaging and poor performance investigation.

Leading the Baker McVeigh group is the renowned John McVeigh, a prominent figure in international horse racing circles. For three and a half decades, John has played a significant role in the expansion and development of our Baker McVeigh practices, overseeing the business’s growth across six practices, over three continents.

John is based in Summerveld and continues to travel to our other practices, offering his assistance, expertise and knowledge.

 

Antony Clements

Antony Clements joined the Baker McVeigh group in 2001, having previously worked in practices in Hampshire and the University of Glasgow. He has extensive experience and post-graduate qualifications in equine orthopaedics. After moving to Durban and helping to establish our Cape Town practice, Antony moved to the UK where he became the managing partner of our Newmarket practice. He now tends to the needs of our larger clients and offers consulting services across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

Duncan Moir

Following a number of years with Baker McVeigh in South Africa, Duncan returned to the UK to help establish our Newmarket practice. Since then, he has developed an extensive client base in all areas of thoroughbred racing and sports horse fields. With a particular interest in sports medicine, Duncan manages several racing yards in Newmarket. In addition, he vets and consults for various private clients both in the UK and internationally.

Fernando Perez de Villar

Hailing from Spain, Fernando joined our Baker McVeigh practice in Newmarket soon after its inception, in 2006. Following his graduation from Madrid, he worked for three years in Spain before moving to the UK where he has been residing for the last twenty years. Fernando worked in a large animal practice in Surrey, where he dealt mostly with horses. Moreover, he has a wealth of experience in all aspects of equine practice and gained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice, in 2006. In 2011, Fernando became a partner and has been instrumental in the success of our Baker McVeigh Newmarket practice.
